Dartmoor Challenge

Dartmoor Challenge

I’ve always been proud of our team here at Howard Mortgages, but none more so than this weekend.  After a 4.30am wake up, Sarah Johnson, Michael Gambles and I (Lee Howard) trekked across Dartmoor in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Our 27 mile circular route started with bacon butties and ended the trek at the event hub in Harrowbeer Airfield, Yelverton, through all seasons – sun, wind and torrential rain!

Our team started out coming through Callisham Cross, Meavy where we met the base of Burrator Reservoir to checkpoint 1 at the top of the Reservoir.

We then followed the moors taking in the unique atmosphere of the National Park, up to Norsworthy Bridge, to checkpoint 2 at Merrivale.

We walked over the wide, open landscape, close to Vixen Tor then Pew Tor, standing stones.  Sarah and Michael were absolutely amazing and kept pushing on with big smiles on their faces despite pain and a multitude of blisters.

Our team then headed back into civilisation towards Sampford Spinney and out again at mile 19 where we headed to Whitchurch Middlemoor – checkpoint 3 Tiddy Brook.

The final stretch followed Tiddy Brook down to meet River Walkham, through Buckland Monachorum.  We then trekked back to Yelverton Rock and the Airfield to complete our 27 mile trek.

We were very relieved and delighted to finish with a medal and glass of bubbly at the end completing the challenge in just under 11 hours.  Together, so far, we have raised over £1,000 for this amazing cause with more sponsorship still coming in.
